Some General Information

The Story of Hawk, The Most Overlooked Leader Of GI Joe.

He didn’t have Duke’s spotlight or Flint’s swagger, and his first figure wasn’t even sold on a cardback—Hawk was just a “Missile Commander” packed in with the rather unexciting Mobile Missile System. But while Hasbro seemed to bury him, the comics put him front and center, leaping off the MOBAT on the cover of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #1 and leading the Original GI Joe team into battle. Over the years, though, Hawk’s role kept shifting. In the Sunbow cartoon, he was initially benched; in the comics, he survived assassination attempts, and eventually reemerged as a pragmatic and secretive general willing to make the toughest calls. From bright-eyed idealist to battle-hardened realist, Hawk GI Joe may just be the most overlooked—and underrated—leader the franchise ever had.
